Krewe of Goats Mardi Gras parade rolls in Prichard
Prichard’s Krewe of Goats held its annual Mardi Gras parade on Saturday. See photos in the accompanying gallery.
Among the area’s carnival parades, this one has a unique origin: it commemorates a semi-legendary celebrant known as the Goat Man, who in a bygone era threw trinkets from a cart pulled by goats. Each year the Krewe of Goats names an honorary Goat Man for its festivities.
After Mobile’s Joe Cain Day celebrations on Sunday, followed by Le Krewe de Bienville at 5 p.m., comes Lundi Gras. Monday parades include the MLK Business & Civic Organization, MLK Monday Mystics and Northside Merchants starting at 3 p.m. on Route D; The Infant Mystics and the Order of Doves starting at 7 p.m. one Route F; and the Order of Mystic Magnolias in Fairhope.
