Kool-Aid McKinstry signs his first NFL contract
Cornerback Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry has signed his first NFL contract, the New Orleans Saints announced on Friday.
The Saints chose McKinstry from Alabama with the 41st selection in the NFL Draft on April 26.
That draft slot comes with a four-year contract worth about $9.157 million.
All drafted players receive four-year contracts. The values of those contracts are based on the pick number, the NFL’s salary cap of $255.4 million for the 2024 season and this year’s rookie compensation pool in a formula spelled out in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and its players association.
McKinstry became the last of New Orleans’ seven draft picks to sign his first NFL contract.
McKinstry is joining a position group that has Paulson Adebo and Marshon Lattimore returning. Adebo is a three-year starter for New Orleans, and Lattimore is a four-time Pro Bowler who has played in 17 games over the past two seasons because of injuries. Slot corner Alontae Taylor also returns for the Saints.
Medical examinations at the NFL Scouting Combine found McKinstry had a Jones fracture in his right foot. That didn’t prevent the Saints from selecting the cornerback in the second round of the NFL Draft on April 26, but it has slowed McKinstry involvement in New Orleans’ on-the-field work this offseason.
The Saints traded up to add McKinstry with the 41st selection. New Orleans sent the Green Bay Packers the 45th, 168th and 190th choices to move up four spots.

At Alabama in 2023, McKinstry earned first-team All-American recognition from The Associated Press and The Sporting News.
