Kool-Aid McKinstry was late for Thursday’s NFL combine news conference, and now we know why. The former Alabama defensive back and preps star at Pinson Valley was held up getting an MRI, revealing a Jones fracture in his right foot, AL.com confirmed.

McKinstry will not participate in on-field drills at Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday and, instead, will work out at Alabama’s pro day on March 20 in Tuscaloosa.

McKinstry “should be 100%” before this summer’s training camp, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Yet, the injury is a blow to McKinstry’s draft stock, as he could’ve used the 40-yard dash and other events to pair with his tape from three seasons as a starter.

McKinstry is rated the seventh-best cornerback in Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest ESPN evaluations. McKinstry is also rated 21st and 28th, respectively, on Jordan Reid and Matt Miller’s player rankings.

McKinstry totaled 92 tackles, two interceptions and 25 pass deflections in Nick Saban’s secondary. He averaged 11.9 yards across 42 punt returns. McKinstry was named first-team All-SEC by coaches and the Associated Press.
