The first game of this series ended with a lot of controversy with some major blunders by the officiating crew late in the fourth quarter. One missed call transpired when the game was tied 115-115 with about 53 seconds remaining in regulation, as the referees called a kicked ball violation against the Pacers on a legally tipped pass. This call took away a transition opportunity from the Pacers and allowed the Knicks to retain possession. This extra possession ended with Donte DiVincenzo hitting a three point shot for the Knicks and giving them a 118-115 lead with just under 40 seconds remaining.
The other controversial call was a moving screen by the Pacers with 12 seconds left on the clock, as they had possession and were only down by one point. Myles Turner got called for the illegal screen against DiVincenzo, who was the savior for the Knicks in game 1.
The Pacers nearly stole a win in Madison Square Garden to start this second round series, even though their star point guard Tyrese Haliburton only had six points. Despite his lackluster performance, the Pacers were still competitive in this game because six of their players finished the game with double digit points. After a deflating game 1 loss, the Pacers will have to recuperate and try to get their revenge in game 2 tonight.
The Knicks were led by their star point guard Jalen Brunson, who ended the game with 43 points. He was assisted by teammates Josh Hart and DiVincenzo, who combined for 49 points. Although it was a huge game 1 victory for the team, the Knicks still need to defend their home court in game 2 tonight.
