Knee injury lands C.J. Uzomah on injured reserve

The New York Jets placed C.J. Uzomah on injured reserve on Wednesday after the former Auburn tight end sustained a medial collateral ligament injury during Sunday’s 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

By going on injured reserve, Uzomah will be required to miss the next four games, and the Jets have five games left on their 2023 schedule.

Uzomah has eight receptions for 58 yards and one touchdown in 12 games, with eight starts, this season, his second with New York.

Uzomah entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015.

In his first six seasons with the Bengals, Uzomah had 114 receptions for 1,098 yards and eight touchdowns. In 2021, Uzomah had 49 receptions for 493 yards and five touchdowns as Cincinnati won the AFC championship and lost to the Los Angeles Rams 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI.

After the 2021 season, the Jets signed Uzomah to a three-year, $24 million contract that included $15 million in guaranteed money in free agency. In his first season with New York, Uzomah had 21 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns.
