Kirby Smart’s dad taken to New Orleans hospital after fall
Kirby Smart’s father has been admitted to a New Orleans hospital and will undergo hip surgery after falling in front of a hotel Tuesday, per a Rivals.com report.
Sonny Smart’s fall was unrelated to the New Orleans terrorist attack on Bourbon Street.
Sonny Smart was in New Orleans for Georgia’s CFP quarterfinal game with Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
The College Football Playoff game, originally scheduled for Wednesday night at the Superdome, has been pushed back 24 hours to Thursday.
“We have been in consultation with ESPN, the College Football Playoffs, the Southeastern Conference, the University of Georgia, with Notre Dame,” Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley said. “All parties agreed it’s in the best interest of everybody and public safety that we postpone the game for 24 hours.”
The exact time and broadcast information has yet to be announced. It is assumed ESPN will broadcast the game in prime time. However, the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl between Ole Miss and Duke is scheduled for ESPN on Thursday night at 6:30. There have been talks of moving the kickoff up in the day for travel purposes.
