Kiffin tells ESPN crew who he’s rooting for in Alabama-LSU

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin made a lively appearance from the field in Oxford on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday as his team prepared to face Texas A&M at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The GameDay panel of Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee and Desmond Howard hurled compliment after compliment at Kiffin, lauding his improved physique, his stylish suit, his hairstyle and how his 7-1 Rebels have played since a 24-10 loss to Alabama on Sept. 23. Kiffin wasn’t having it, borrowing a phrase from Nick Saban and dismissing the compliments as “rat poison.”

He also poked fun at the GameDay crew for spending so much time in Tuscaloosa, and at McAfee for his burgeoning friendship with Saban. The Alabama coach makes an appearance every Thursday on McAfee’s daily ESPN show.

Before Kiffin’s segment ended, he got in one last dig. Mindful of his Rebels having the SEC West tiebreaker over LSU but not over Alabama, he made it known who he was hoping wins in Saturday night’s Alabama-LSU game in Tuscaloosa.

“You guys have fun in Tuscaloosa,” Kiffin said. “They tell me I’m supposed to root for LSU today, so Geaux Tigers.”

Ole Miss faces Texas A&M at 11 a.m. on ESPN. Alabama-LSU kicks off at 6:45 p.m. on CBS.
