Kid Rock calls Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl show ‘epitome of the DEI blowing up’
Kid Rock believes Kendrick Lamar’s performance was nothing more than a result of the NFL’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiative, even if he did respect the musical act.
The entertainer went scorched Earth during a recent appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher.”
“How did he get there? I’ve heard nobody answer this question. How did he get that gig?” Rock said, via Billboard.
The singer didn’t stop there, saying Jay-Z, whose Roc Nation is in a partnership with the NFL, serves as a “continuation of efforts led by Colin Kaepernick to advocate for racial (justice) and an end to police brutality,” per Sporting News.
“I think Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar should both send Colin Kaepernick a Bundt cake and a six-pack of beer and a ‘thank you’ note with a bunch of money in it,” Rock said, “because without him kneeling and getting everyone’s panties in a bunch over the anthem, self-included, I don’t think that happens.”
Kid Rock pointed out the performance was anything but inclusion, calling it “the epitome of the DEI blowing up.”
“It’s all Black people, or all people of color, speaking to his crowd, in the hood, Black people,” Rock said. “It was, like, the most exclusive thing ever, and I’m like, ‘(F-bomb) yeah, that’s awesome.’ I’m laughing my (a-word) off.”
With all of that said, Kid Rock has nothing but respect for Lamar’s halftime show.
“I’m like, ‘Man, this kid pretty much came out figuratively with both middle fingers in the air, doing what he does for the people who love what he does, unapologetically,” Rock said. “And I don’t think he gives a frog’s fat (a-word) what anyone thinks about it.
“It’s pretty much how I built my whole career. I gotta respect it.”
