Keith Urban shocks Alabama Buc-ee’s with surprise show: ‘it’s gonna be a blast’

Country star Keith Urban will make an appearance Friday, Aug. 16, in the parking lot of an Alabama Buc-ee’s.

Many details of the event, such as its expected duration, remain unknown. However, Urban posted on his Facebook page that what ever he’s planning will happen at 8 p.m. “We’ll see ya outside in the parking lot,” said his brief post. “It’s gonna be a blast.” The flier he posted said “How I Got Here” and “Live @ Buc-ee’s.”

Urban has a new album due for September release that’s titled “High.” Earlier this year, when he announced a tour of clubs and dive bars to coincide with the release of the single “Go Home W U,” he said he wanted to play the song in a setting that felt familiar to “HOW I GOT HERE” – which spells out h.i.g.h.

“This is how I got to do what I’m doing,” Urban told www.audacity.com. “So it’s like second nature to me to be in a tiny little club. I mean, the benefit is that people hopefully are coming to listen. I’m used to playing in these clubs when nobody cares that you’re up on stage.”

A giant gas station-convenience store isn’t exactly a small club, but maybe the same stripped-down spirit applies. “There is nowhere to hide when people are standing right in front of you,” Urban told www.audacity.com. “There’s no trickery and there’s no net.”

The Buc-ee’s in question is at 2328 Lindsay Lane S. in Athens, near the Huntsville Brownsferry Road exit on I-65. It opened in late 2022.
