Katie Britt fights gas stoves ban: ‘No greater example of government overreach’

Sen. Katie Britt has joined several of her colleagues to introduce legislation to prohibit the Biden Administration from banning gas stoves, her office announced on Friday.

”There is perhaps no greater example of government overreach than the radical attempts to eradicate the use of gas stoves,” Britt said.

Britt and Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, introduced the “Save Our Gas Stoves Act” with Senators Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), and Ted Budd (R-N.C.).

“I’m proud to join Senator Sullivan and my colleagues in introducing this commonsense measure to ensure that hardworking American families continue to have access to affordable appliance choices for their homes,” Britt said.

Similar legislation passed the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this week after having been delayed earlier this month as a procedural vote was help up by members of the House Freedom Caucus.

Cooking with gas-fired stoves can expose people to roughly the same cancer risk as breathing secondhand cigarette smoke, according to researchers from Stanford University and nonprofit PSE Healthy Energy, the Los Angeles Times recently reported.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has explored banning the stoves for several months citing concerns about harmful indoor air pollutants emitted by the appliances.
