Katie Britt endorses Trump for president just hours before Alabama GOP debate

Alabama Sen. Katie Britt has endorsed former President Donald Trump’s bid to regain the office.

In an op-ed with Yellowhammer News, Britt made the endorsement, which comes just hours prior to Alabama hosting its first-ever Republican presidential debate in Tuscaloosa tonight – a debate where Trump will not be on stage.

“One candidate has already proven he’s more than up for the job – because he’s done the job successfully,” Britt said. “There is one candidate I know will secure the border — because he’s done it. There is one candidate I know will achieve peace through strength — because he’s done it.

“And that’s why President Donald Trump has my endorsement to be our 47th President.”

Britt cited inflationary prices on gas and food and the Biden Administration’s border policy among reasons for her endorsement.

“Results matter – and the results of his strong leadership as the 45th President of the United States are clear for all to see,” Britt wrote. “These past three years have felt like an eternity, but I’m sure you recall how much better off we were under the Trump Administration.”

The other seven members of Alabama’s Washington GOP delegation announced their support of Trump back in August – hours before the former president delivered the keynote address at the Alabama Republican Party’s annual summer dinner.

A report earlier this year stated that Britt being the only member of the delegation who had not endorsed Trump had “become a real headache” within factions of the Republican Party.

Britt drew criticism from Charlie Kirk, founder/CEO of Turning Point USA. Steve Bannon, former Breitbart executive and Trump advisor, told The Daily Beast at the time that Britt’s endorsement should be “rolled out when it will make the biggest impact to defeat Joe Biden.”

At the time, Britt told AL.com that as part of her work with the newly-formed Republican Party Advisory Council, put together by RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, she intended to remain neutral until the group completed its work.

Trump endorsed Britt in her 2022 GOP Senate primary runoff against Mo Brooks after Trump withdrew his backing of Brooks months earlier, claiming Brooks became “woke” for telling attendees at a Trump rally in Cullman to move past the 2020 election.

That endorsement came less than two weeks before Britt defeated Brooks in the runoff.
