Katie Britt: All of Trump’s nominees deserve a chance to make their case
Although she has not said how she will on President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees, U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., said all deserve a chance to make their case why they should be confirmed.
On Friday, Britt said on Huntsville radio WVNN’s “The Dale Jackson Show ” that every Trump cabinet nominee should have a chance to explain their qualifications and make their case for why they should be confirmed.
“Every nominee deserves that opportunity to make their case and to explain their plan, to explain their philosophy, to answer questions and to say, ‘Hey, this is how I’m going to execute the responsibilities that have been given to me by the President, and this is what I’m going to do for the office that I’ve been nominated,” said Britt.
Trump’s nomination of Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz as Attorney General has been the source of some controversy.
While Alabama’s senior senator, Tommy Tuberville, has said Republicans who vote against Gaetz will be voted out of office, Britt has yet to say how she will vote.
Her office told AL.com in a statement on Friday that she “looks forward to reviewing each nomination as they move forward in the process. Working with President Trump, Senator Britt and her colleagues are eager to deliver results for American families and get our nation back on track.”
Since Trump’s transition to the White House, Britt said she has not discussed the floor nomination with any of her colleagues.
“When we came out of those leadership elections, I expected to walk into the hall and confirm every person there, I voted for Rick Scott, and this is why,” said Britt.
She said she believes legislators must quickly prepare for upcoming hearings once they are sworn in on January 3.
“This will be a real test obviously to see how much we can get done before Trump is sworn in, so we can have those votes immediately after and get his cabinet in place,” said Britt.
According to Britt, many mothers are excited about Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s nomination for Secretary of Health and Human Services.
“I’ve gotten a ton of moms that are just so excited that we’re gonna have someone that’s gonna speak directly about, you know, food and directly about toxins that are here in America but aren’t in Europe,” Britt said.
Britt remains committed to the President-elect’s cabinet nominations despite the opinions of others.
“I am committed to the process and certainly look forward to getting his cabinet filled and, you know, getting to work,” said Britt.
