Kansas City Chiefs bring back former UAB tight end

Former UAB tight end Gerrit Prince is back with the Kansas City Chiefs after signing with the NFL team on Wednesday.

Prince spent most of the 2023 season on the Chiefs’ practice squad as Kansas City won the Super Bowl for the second year in a row.

Prince wasn’t able to help the Chiefs prepare for the 2023 NFL championship game, though, because he sustained a broken foot and went on injured reserve on Dec. 12.

Prince had 36 receptions for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns for UAB in 2021 before entering the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

After spending the 2022 season on Jacksonville’s practice squad, Prince got released on Aug. 29, 2023, when the Jaguars made the cut to reach the regular-season roster limit. Three days later, he signed with Kansas City.
