Kalen DeBoer shares Alabama football injury report after scrimmage
Alabama football’s Saturday scrimmage was shorter than the Crimson Tide’s first of the offseason, with 94 plays down from 102. However, according to head coach Kalen DeBoer, it was the most physical he’s seen since arriving in Tuscaloosa, including the A-Day game.
As such, the Tide had some players banged up in the scrimmage. DeBoer gave an update on a few of the injuries after the scrimmage.
For starters, running back Jam Miller did not go. Miller had been in a black non-contact jersey during practices after the UA’s first scrimmage.
“Just dinged up a week ago,” DeBoer said. “Could have gone today if he had needed to. Not to get too crazy and (we’re) being smart.”
Besides Miller, Alabama players who were not fully participating in practice drills seen by the media this week included offensive linemen Tyler Booker and Olaus Alinen, linebacker Jihaad Campbell and running backs Kevin Riley and Richard Young.
DeBoer made things sound like nobody was dealing with anything major.
“Got through relatively healthy,” he said. “Some things this week with a couple guys that will pull them probably out for a few practices, but by the end of the week we should, for the most part, have the guys that we need to be out there practicing, getting ready for week one against Western Kentucky.”
Offensive guard Jaeden Roberts, who has filled the Crimson Tide’s first team spot on the right side, was apparently also banged up. According to DeBoer, he won’t miss game time.
“Jaeden will be able to play week one,” DeBoer said. “It won’t be anything where he’ll be out for a game or anything.”
Alabama will continue preseason camp practice on Tuesday. The Crimson Tide opens the season on Aug. 31, when WKU visits Tuscaloosa to open the DeBoer era.
