June Jam 2023 lineup announced for Alabama’s country concert’s return

The population of Fort Payne, Alabama will increase dramatically on June 3. That’s the date legendary country-music group Alabama is bringing back June Jam. The epic concerts drew tens of thousands to their hometown during its 1982 to 1997 original run, with attendance peaking at 67,000 in 1991.

Fort Payne’s population is around 15,000, according to the 2020 census.

And as always with June Jam, Alabama, known for hits like “Mountain Music” and “Song of the South,” are bringing some friends.

The group have announced supporting acts for the concert: Randy Travis, Jamey Johnson, Jake Owen, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Frontmen (a country supergroup comprised of Richie McDonald, formerly of Lonestar, Tim Rushlow, formerly of Little Texas, and Larry Stewart of Restless Heart), Exile, Mark Wills, Neal McCoy, Dailey & Vincent, Home Free, The Malpass Brothers and Dee Jay Silver.

Alabama, featuring founding members Randy Owen, lead vocals and guitar, and Teddy Gentry, bass and vocals, will headline the concert. According to a press release, additional special guest performers will be announced at a later date.

The concert is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will take place at the Dekalb County VFW Fair Grounds. Ticket prices are $49.50, $79.75, $150 and $250 (plus applicable fees) via ticketmaster.com. As with previous June Jam concerts, this year’s reboot will benefit those in need and disaster relief in and around the state of Alabama.

This year’s concert will be the first June Jam without Jeff Cook, Alabama’s beloved guitarist, who died last year at age 73.

Alabama’s stardom exploded during the ‘80s. Their many hits include “40 Hour Week,” “Feels So Right,” “Old Flame,” “The Closer You Get. The group’s sold more than 73 million albums, the most by any band in country music history, according to a press release.

In addition to Country Hall of Fame group Alabama, performers at past June Jams included the likes of Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, The Judds, Charley Pride, Steve Earle, Clint Black, Charlie Daniels Band and Glen Campbell.

A week of fan appreciation events will lead up to June Jam 2023. These will include public Celebration of Life for the late Jeff Cook (12 p.m. June 3 at the VFW Fairgrounds), Teddy Gentry’s Singing with the Stars Talent Contest (6 p.m. June at the Fort Payne City Hall Auditorium), the Fans Songwriter Showcase Spectacular (7 p.m. June 2 featuring Jamey Johnson, Gary Baker, Ronnie Rogers and Chris Tompkins), and a brunch at Cook Castle for the Jeff & Lisa Cook Foundation (Friday, June 2 at 11 AM). Each event is ticketed separately. Ticket information is available via the Alabama fan club.
