July 4 weather: Isolated severe storms possible today

Be on the lookout for a few strong to severe storms while you are celebrating Independence Day.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has most of Alabama in a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather today, which means that isolated severe storms will be possible.

There will be another chance for storms for most of Alabama on Wednesday as well.

The strongest of those storms could have wind gusts capable of taking down trees as well as heavy rain and hail. The tornado threat is low.

Storms were already moving across parts of north Alabama on Tuesday morning, and they are expected to multiply and intensify this afternoon into the evening hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Storms are expected to have no trouble developing during this afternoon’s hot temperatures and high humidity levels.

The storms could contain a lot of heavy rain, and localized flooding will be possible.

The forecast for Wednesday will be very similar, with strong to severe storms possible, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

There will also be a Level 1 risk for severe weather tomorrow.

Nearly all of Alabama could have to deal with isolated severe storms on Wednesday.

The good thing about the rain is that it could help keep temperatures a bit lower, although that oppressive humidity isn’t going anywhere.
