July 4 in Alabama: Your guide to fireworks, festivals and other events in 2023
Ready for a festive Independence Day? Events are planned throughout the state to help you have a red, white and blue holiday — and some of them are starting early this year, since July 4 falls on a Tuesday. Here’s a sampling.
INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND CELEBRATION AT MIDCITY
What: Watermelon carving, live music, yoga, mullet and mustache contest, fireworks.
When: June 30-July 2. Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. July 1.
Where: MidCity District, 5901 University Drive, Huntsville.

4TH OF JULY WEEKEND PARTY
What: Fireworks, family-friendly activities, music, “dive in” movie night and more.
When: June 30-July 2, 2-9 p.m. Fireworks at 8:50 p.m. on July 1.
Where: The Park at OWA, 1501 S. OWA Blvd. Foley.
Admission: Free, except for “dive-in” movie on June 30 at Tropic Falls.

BATTLESHIP MEMORIAL PARK
What: Self-guided tours of USS Alabama, USS Drum and Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion.

What: Baseball games with teams in Double-A South league. Fireworks after the game.
When: June 30-July 3, four games at various times. June 3 game at 6:05 p.m. is an Independence Day celebration with fireworks.

THUNDER ON THE MOUNTAIN
What: Fireworks display for Independence Day. Show lasts about 20 minutes and is choreographed to music.
When: July 4 at 9 p.m.
Where: Fireworks ignited at Vulcan Park and Museum in Birmingham, which is closed starting at 6 p.m. for safety reasons. Viewing areas throughout the city, including Homewood, Five Points South and the UAB campus.
Admission: Free. The fireworks display also will be broadcast on WBRC Fox 6.
