July 4 events in Alabama 2024: Fireworks, festivals, ballgames, barbecue

Ready for a sparkling Independence Day? Celebrations are planned throughout the state to help you have a red, white and blue holiday. Here are 25 events you won’t want to miss, set for Wednesday, July 3, through Saturday, July 6.

Fire on the Water

What: Family activities, swimming, food trucks, music, fireworks.

When: July 3, 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Fireworks at 9 p.m.

Where: Oak Mountain State Park, 200 Terrace Drive, Pelham. Events at main beach, Double Oak Lake.

Admission: $15 per vehicle with up to four people.

Our Lady of Sorrows Fourth of July Festival

What: About 6,500 pounds of barbecue cooked by the Knights of Columbus. With children’s games, bingo Trash & Treasure rummage sale.

When: July 3-4.

Where: Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1728 Oxmoor Road, Homewood.

Bulk BBQ sales: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 3, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 4. Whole Boston Butts, boneless turkey breasts, chopped pork, pork ribs, smoked, smoked half chickens, beans, slaw, sauce, bread, cakes.

BBQ plate sales: July 4, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in parish hall. Barbecue plates, pork sandwiches, hot dogs.

UAB Summer Band Concert

What: Music by community group of adult amateur and professional musicians.

When: July 4 at 7 p.m.

Where: Outside Bartow Arena, 617 13th St. South, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Bring chairs and blankets.

Admission: Free.

COOL THINGS TO do IN Birmingham this week

Thunder on the Mountain

What: Fireworks display for Independence Day. Show lasts about 20 minutes and is choreographed to music.

When: July 4 at 9 p.m.

Where: Fireworks ignited at Vulcan Park and Museum in Birmingham, which is closed starting at 6 p.m. for safety reasons. Viewing areas throughout the city, including Homewood, Five Points South and the UAB campus.

Admission: Free. The fireworks display also will be broadcast on WBRC Fox 6.

4th of July Family Festival

What: Live music, food trucks, children’s activities, viewing of Thunder on the Mountain fireworks show.

When: July 4, 5 p.m. 9 p.m.

Where: Railroad Park, 1600 First Ave. South, Birmingham. Bring blankets, lawn chairs and coolers. Glass bottles and alcohol purchaed outside the park are not permitted.

Admission: Free.

Homewood 4th of July Festival

What: Rides, children’s activities, viewing of Thunder on the Mountain fireworks show.

When: July 4 at 5 p.m.

Where: Downtown Homewood, 18th Street near 29th Avenue South. Two blocks of 18th Street South and one block of 29th Avenue South will be blocked to traffic, organizers said.

Admission: Free, wristbands $10 for unlimited rides and other attractions.

Trussville Freedom Celebration

What: Fireworks show, music by Act of Congress, food vendors and more.

When: July 4, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Fireworks at 9 p.m.

Where: Trussville Mall, near Cahaba Elementary School, 360 N. Chalkville Road, Trussville.

Admission: Free.

Fourth of July Fireworks and Concert

What: Live music by Taylor Hicks and the Bank Walkers, fireworks show.

When: July 4, 6 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., music starts at 6:30 p.m., fireworks at 9 p.m.

Where: Lake Martin Amphitheater, Russell Lands on Lake Martin, 8878 Kowaliga Road, Eclectic.

Admission: $10.

Independence Day Celebration

What: Fireworks display, food trucks, live music and more.

When: July 4. Gates open at 5 p.m., fireworks start around 9 p.m.

Where: Behind Duck Samford Stadium, 1840 East Glenn Ave., Auburn. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Fireworks ignited at old water tower site on East University Drive, next to Duck Samford Park.

Admission: Free.

What: Music by Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, fireworks, children’s activities.

When: July 4, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Children’s zone opens 6 p.m., symphony performs 7:55 p.m., fireworks 9 p.m.

Where: Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater, 2710 Jack Warner Parkway, Tuscaloosa.

When: July 4-6, Thursday and Friday at 6:35 p.m. Saturday at 6:05 p.m. July 4 game includes Independence Day celebration with fireworks; Saturday game includes fireworks, as well.

What: Fireworks display; viewing spots at Troy University’s Veterans Memorial Stadium and surrounding areas.

When: July 4 at 8:30 p.m.

What: Patriotic activities, colonial music, meet patriots of the past, outdoor games, food trucks and fireworks.

When: July 4. Gates open at 11 a.m., activities 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m., fireworks at 9 p.m.

Where: American Village, 3727 Alabama 119 South, Montevallo.

Admission: $5, free for veterans; active members of military and children age 4 and younger.

What: Music, food, arts and crafts, fireworks and more.

When: July 4, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

Where: Smith Lake Park, 403 Cullman County 386, Cullman.

What: Music by JED Eye, food vendors, fireworks display.

When: July 4 at 6 p.m.

Where: 6 p.m. concert at Civilian Park, Sunset Drive, Guntersville, 9 p.m. fireworks shot over lake from end of parking lot at Bill Moore Baseball Field.

What: Live music by Shenandoah and more, children’s activities, car show, fireworks show.

When: July 4, starting at 7 a.m. Fireworks at 9:45 p.m.

What: Fireworks, family-friendly activities, music, “dive in” movie night and more.

When: July 4-6, 2 p.m.-9 p.m. Fireworks at 8:50 p.m. on July 4.
