Josh Cuevas becomes 4th Washington transfer to pick Alabama football

Alabama welcomed tight end Josh Cuevas to its tight end room on Monday. Cuevas announced his transfer to Tuscaloosa on social media, the second addition head coach Kalen DeBoer secured via the portal this evening.

Cuevas decided to leave Washington on Feb. 5 and will be reunited with his former tight ends coach Nick Sheridan, who was recently elevated to UA’s offensive coordinator. Cuevas is the fourth former Huskie to join the Crimson Tide, including quarterback Austin Mack, wide receiver Germie Bernard and center Parker Brailsford.

Cuevas is a native of Los Angeles and started his collegiate career at Cal Poly, recording more than 670 yards across two years. He then transferred to Washington ahead of the 2023 spring season, totaling four catches and 164 yards with one touchdown. Cuevas also played special teams and made a tackle in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Sugar Bowl against Texas.

On Washington’s roster, Cuevas was listed at 6-foot-3, 239 pounds. Alabama lost tight end Amari Niblack (four touchdowns) to Texas following the retirement of Nick Saban. Miles Kitselman also departed for Tennessee. UA’s tight end room currently consists of CJ Dippr, Robbie Outzs and Danny Lewis Jr.

DeBoer reportedly filled Alabama’s tight ends coach opening with former Georgia Southern head coach Bryan Ellis. About an hour before Cuevas’ tweet, Alabama reportedly added Michigan defensive back Keon Sabb to its roster.
