Jordan Rodgers insists Jalen Milroe should return to Alabama: ‘He needs it’

Jordan Rodgers believes Jalen Milroe should return to Alabama next year for another season with the Crimson Tide.

The SEC Network analyst doesn’t believe the quarterback will remain in Tuscaloosa, but he believes it would be in Milroe’s best interest.

“He absolutely should come back because you didn’t see growth this year,” Rodgers said on “The Paul Finebaum Show” after Alabama’s 19-13 loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa. “You didn’t see a guy develop as more than just an athlete. He’s dynamic. He had that long run before the half. … Some of the stuff he does in unbelievable, but he did not develop as a passer within the pocket.”

Milroe was 16 of 32 for 192 yards a touchdown and an interception against the Wolverines. The quarterback was pressured all day, missed on throws and had receivers clearly frustrated.

He and the Alabama offense tallied -2 yards on 15 plays in the first quarter in which he had two fumbles and the interception.

“You watch earlier in this game with Michigan,” Rodgers explained. “His feet were slow, getting the reads, getting the progressions were late. It caused some of the issues, the turnovers, slipping. It was ugly.”

The Tide had first-and-10 in the red zone with a chance to win the game with under a minute to play, but Milroe threw four straight incompletions.

“You saw a quarterback that didn’t develop throughout the season,” he said. “I think that was a problem. I wish he’d come back for another year. He needs it.”
