Join the Ed Lab and AP on Twitter Spaces to discuss teacher shortages

Stories about school teacher shortages, echoed in outlets around the country this fall, can be scary. News outlets have said school staffing is in “crisis” and is “catastrophic.”

Here at AL.com, our Ed Lab team also has reported on high rates of staff retirements and low morale.

But what’s actually changed at the classroom level? Has child learning been impacted? And what can educators and parents learn from communities in other states and cities?

The Alabama Education Lab is assessing the issue with our latest national journalism collaborative project, called “Tackling Teacher Shortages.” This series is part of a national collaboration between Education Labs and journalists at The Associated Press, AL.com, The Christian Science Monitor, The Dallas Morning News in Texas, The Fresno Bee in California, The Hechinger Report, The Seattle Times and The Post and Courier in Charleston, South Carolina.

Join us on Twitter Spaces at 11 a.m. Central to discuss the topic. You can set a reminder and listen live here.

The Twitter Spaces conversation will be hosted by Associated Press editor Chrissie Thompson, who leads the national wire services’ education team. AL.com education reporter Rebecca Griesbach, AP reporter Sharon Lurye and EdTrust expert Eric Duncan will discuss their reporting.

The national collaborative is planning another Twitter Spaces later this month. Follow The Alabama Education Lab on Twitter @aledlab to be notified about future events.
