Jimmy Kimmel takes shot at Alabama senator Katie Britt during Oscars monologue

It didn’t take long for Jimmy Kimmel to get political Sunday night as the host of the 96th annual Academy Awards.

The Oscars host wasted little time taking on Alabama senator Katie Britt’s Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address last week.

Kimmel pointed out Emma Stone, who is nominated for best actress for her role in “Poor Things.”

“Emma played an adult woman with the brain of a child like the lady that gave the rebuttal to the State of the Union on Thursday night,” Kimmel quipped.

There was immediate reaction on social media:

It’s been open season on Britt since her rebuttal, unleashing many late night and social media jokes. Scarlett Johansson played the part of Alabama’s junior senator for Saturday Night Live’s cold open.

“Tonight I’ll be auditioning for the part of scary mom and I’ll be performing an original monologue called ‘this country is hell,’ “The Avengers” star said in the same ‘strange, empty’ kitchen setting as Britt’s speech.

Robert De Niro called Britt’s “acting” in State of the Union rebuttal “lame.”

Britt defended her response to Biden’s State of the Union speech Sunday, including her story about a woman who became a victim of human trafficking at the age of 12.
