Jimmy Hall to celebrate album release at ‘Hall-oween’ show Saturday in Biloxi

Halloween brings its share of tricks, but here’s a genuine treat: A Gulf Coast album release party from Jimmy Hall, who’ll present music from his new solo album “Ready Now” on Saturday in Biloxi.

The full-fledged “Hall-oween” experience, which includes a costume contest with a top prize of $500, is presented by the Ground Zero Blues Club at 814 Howard Avenue in Biloxi. Music starts at 7 p.m. with an opening set by Brick Field; tickets are $40 in advance and can be ordered through www.groundzerobiloxi.com.

Hall, a Mobile native who rose to fame as front man for Southern rock group Wet Willie, has also had an extensive solo career and has played with Jeff Beck, Hank Williams Jr. and members of the Allman Brothers Band. In September he released “Ready Now,” an album of blues and gospel-influenced material co-produced by Joe Bonamassa. Guest artists on the set included Bonamassa and Warren Haynes.

Biloxi Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich has issued a proclamation declaring that Saturday, Oct. 29, will be “Jimmy Hall Day” in the city,

Caroline Croom of Ground Zero said that club operators expect a warm welcome for Hall. “We had him here a couple of months ago, the show was really well received,” she said.

For those with tickets to the show, there’s no additional charge to participate in the costume contest, though competitors are asked to register for judging. The winner will get $500 cash, with $300 cash for second place and a $100 gift card for third place. Hall will be among the celebrity judges for the contest.

The venue, an offshoot of the original Ground Zero co-owned by Morgan Freeman in Clarksdale, Miss., opened in early 2022. It features table seating and full restaurant service on three levels. For menus and other information, visit www.groundzerobiloxi.com.

Other upcoming dates listed at jimmyhall.com/shows include a Nov. 5 Jimmy Hall & The Differents show at The Furniture Factory Bar and Grill in Huntsville. That group also features Donna Hall Foster and Ryan Hall.

Hall received another showcase Thursday as a special guest on the Paul Finebaum Show. The segment is available in podcast form.
