Jimmy Buffett hospitalized with undisclosed condition, cancels Charlotte show

Music legend Jimmy Buffett has been hospitalized in Boston for treatment of an undisclosed condition and has cancelled and upcoming show in Charlotte, S.C.

In a letter posted to his website, Buffett said he had stopped in Boston for what was to be a routine check-up, “but wound up back in the hospital to address some issues that needed attention.”

Buffett said he was returning from a trip to the Bahamas where he had been “thawing out from the California ‘winter tour.’”

“Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you,” Buffett wrote. “I also will promise you that when I am well enough to perform, that is what I’ll be doing in the land of She-Crab soup.”

Buffett is a native of Pascagoula, Miss., who spent many of his formative years in south Alabama, particularly Mobile and Fairhope, graduating from what is now McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in 1964.

He attended Auburn for a year before continuing his education at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in History.

The concert scheduled for Credit One Stadium in Charleston this Saturday will be rescheduled, with all previously purchased tickets honored for the new date, once it’s announced.

Additional information will be emailed to ticket purchasers directly.

“You all make my life more meaningful and fulfilled than I would ever have imagined as a toe headed little boy sitting on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico,” Buffett wrote in addressing his fans.

“Thank you for your prayers and thoughts, your amazing years of loyalty, and just remember, “NOT YET!”
