Jefferson County Sheriffâs Office made âgrave mistakeâ in firing DA Lynneice Washingtonâs husband, lawyer says
The husband of Jefferson County Bessemer Cutoff District Attorney Lynneice Washington has been fired from the sheriff’s office after serving the county as a deputy for 28 years.
Jude Washington, a sergeant who most recently served on a federal drug task force, was fired from the sheriff’s office this month.
The sheriff’s office declined to comment on Washington’s termination.
Jude Washington’s attorney, Hube Dodd, said his client was fired amid alleged violations of department rules and regulations.
Jefferson County Bessemer Cutoff DA Lynneice Washington said she will “use [her] discretion as District Attorney” to decided whether to prosecute Marshae Jones.
Washington is appealing his termination to the Jefferson County Personnel Board.
“The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office made a grave mistake in terminating Jude Washington,” Dodd said in a prepared statement.
“The allegations that he broke department rules or policies are based on false and misleading statements which will be easily disproved,’’ Dodd said.
“Jude Washington dedicated the last 28 years of his career to making the citizens of Jefferson County safer, and he looks forward to being reinstated so that he can resume protecting those citizens.”
District Attorney Washington said her husband’s firing will “unequivocally not” affect her professional working relationship with the sheriff’s office.
