Jefferson County man shot while sleeping, possibly by New Year’s celebratory gunfire
New Year’s celebratory gunfire may have led to an Alabama man being shot in his bed early Wednesday.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 5:54 a.m. to a report of a person shot at Rusk Mobile Home Park on Pinson Valley Parkway.
Center Point Fire and Rescue took the victim, a 39-year-old man, to UAB Hospital.
Sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby said the man’s injuries are not life-threatening.
Irby said the investigation showed the man was asleep in his bed when he was struck by a bullet and that the shooting may have occurred as a result of celebratory gunfire.
The investigation is ongoing.
