A homeowner shot a suspected burglar Thursday afternoon in eastern Jefferson County.

The shooting happened about 4 p.m. on Dean Road.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene on a reported burglary. They arrived to find the homeowner had shot the suspect, said sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money.

The wounded suspect was taken to UAB Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Money said the homeowner and the suspect did not know each other. The investigation is ongoing.
