Jefferson County Commission President wants people to ‘see where their tax dollars went’

As the Jefferson County Commission prepares to hold an election on July 18 to replace previous District 5 Commissioner Steve Ammons, Commission President Jimmie Stephens says they are not slowing down in their goals to improve road capacity and keep sewer rate increases consistent in 2023.

So, what projects or initiatives is the commission working on right now that you’re excited about?

So, there’s the Grants Mill Road [widening] project and there’s improvements of Old Tuscaloosa Highway and that property surrounding Smucker’s. So those are two of the major projects that we have. And we’re finishing up on the widening of Morgan Road, which should finish within the next month. And then we’re going to begin phase two, which will be connecting Lakeshore Parkway to Morgan Road and actually five laning it down to Hopewell Road.

Yeah, there’s a lot of road projects that we’re excited about that are going to be advantageous to our citizens and the people doing business in Jefferson County. They’re also capacity improvement projects which means that people are going to be able to get to and fro more. They’re going to be able to go much easier than they have in the past.

And looking forward what are the commission’s main goals, either project wise or objective wise, for the county in 2023?
