Jefferson County bingo hall employee shot by security guard during argument, authorities say

A predawn dispute at a Jefferson County bingo hall left one of the employees shot.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched just after 5 a.m. Monday to the business at 5712 Chalkville Road on a report of a person shot.

Deputies arrived to find an employee wounded. Center Point Fire and Rescue took him to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby said the preliminary investigation indicates a verbal argument took place between the employee and the bingo hall’s security guard.

The security guard shot the victim, Irby said. He remained at the scene and was cooperative with deputies.

There have been no arrests or charges filed in the case. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
