Jefferson Christian forfeits basketball area championship, ousted from playoffs
Jefferson Christian Academy’s varsity boys basketball program has been fined and placed on probation for allowing an athlete to play before he completed restitution requirements from a previous violation of the AHSAA Transfer Rule, according to an Alabama High School Athletic Association news release. The violation was self-reported by the Irondale school.
As a result, Jefferson Christian’s program must forfeit its 61-54 victory over Coosa Christian in the Class 1A, Area 11 finals this week, and its season has concluded.
Coosa Christian is now the No. 1 seed from Area 11. Coosa will host Area 8 runner-up Winterboro in the sub-region game on Saturday and the No. 2 seed will be vacated, giving Wadley a bye and a move straight into the AHSAA region tournament next week. Wadley is the 1A, Area 8 champion.
