Jeffco father killed in shooting that critically injured toddler son now identified
Authorities have released the name of a Jefferson County father who was shot to death in front of his children over the weekend.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Alonzo Montez Robinson. He was 34 and lived in Pinson.
The gunfire erupted just before 2 p.m. Saturday in the public housing community in the 7800 block of Wisdom Way in northeastern Jefferson County.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched on a report of multiple people shot, said Jefferson County sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money.
They arrived to find Robinson unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:09 p.m.
Robinson’s 1-year-old son was also injured. Both had been shot multiple times.
The child was taken to Children’s of Alabama where he was last listed in critical, but stable, condition.
Adaryon Coachman (Jefferson County Jail)
Sheriff’s officials charged 19-year-old Adaryon Coachman with capital murder in Robinson’s death and first-degree assault in the shooting of the little boy.
The charge is a capital crime because the victim was killed in front of his children. At least one of Robinson’s other children was at the scene but was not injured.
Money said the investigation shows there had been an ongoing neighborhood dispute that resulted in an argument Saturday afternoon. Coachman, Money said, pulled a gun and fired numerous shots at the adult victim, also striking the child.
Investigators marked multiple shell casings just outside an apartment unit, feet away from the housing community’s playground.
