JD Crowe: MLK Day and Trump inauguration 2025: Dream vs dystopia

This is an opinion cartoon.

“The day on which we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday will also be one of the darkest and most shameful days in the history of this nation, when the man who attempted a coup against the United States will be sworn in for the second time as president.” – Robert Reich, Substack

It’s bad enough that Alabama makes Martin Luther King Jr share this holiday with Robert E. Lee.

The juxtaposition of MLK Day coinciding with Trump 2.0 couldn’t be more stark. Morning light vs darkness of night. Celebrate MLK’s content of character on one hand, and Trump’s complete lack of decency on the other. Enjoy what’s left of the dream while goosestepping into a dystopian oligarchy and the demise of democracy.
