JD Crowe: Alabama is a lab rat on Project 2025 highway to theocracy
This is an opinion cartoon.
The Project 2025 Christian nationalism-lovin’ dudes couldn’t have picked a more willing lab rat than Alabama to test for theocracy-lust. Texas and Louisiana are on board, of course. Mississippi, Georgia and Florida are kissin’ cousins to the theocracy testing ground, for sure.
Texas state Rep. James Talarico, 34-year-old Christian pastor, recently spoke out passionately against all these public, graphic displays of church and state pornography. I agree with Rep. Talarico: “They are testing these ideas in states like Texas before they take them nationwide.”

Abortion ban? Check. IVF ban? Check. Book banning? Check. Librarians under fire? Check. Ready to defund public schools with voucher plans to subsidize private Christian schools? Yep, if they get their way. Forcing every teacher to display the Ten Commandments in their classroom? Louisiana’s already passed the law. Texas, Alabama and Roy Moore are sayin’, “Hold my holy beer.”
That’s just the state stuff.

If America is ‘sleepwalking toward theocracy,’ Alabama’s ready to leap-frog the rest and jump in head-first.
In a nutshell, Project 2025 aims to give the next conservative Republican president – Trump, if all goes horribly wrong – unconstitutional authoritarian powers, based on Christian nationalism beliefs. Not childless cat lady beliefs. Separation of church and state? Ha! Get a room and make babies.
It’s all in the game plan. The “bloodless” revolution game plan.
Same game plan as the Taliban.
