Jaylen Waddle returns with circus catch for Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins defeated the Denver Broncos 70-20 last week without wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
The former Alabama standout missed the record-setting performance by his teammates against the winless Broncos because of a concussion. But he was back in the lineup on Sunday for Miami’s AFC East rivalry game against the Buffalo Bills.
Waddle returned to the stat chart with an 11-yard reception on Miami’s first possession against the Bills that was far from routine.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s pass went through the hands of running back Raheem Mostert. Buffalo linebacker Terrell Bernard’s left hand kept the football from flying on down the field, and Waddle dived in to catch the falling pigskin before it hit the turf.
The second-and-8 completion moved Miami to the Bills 34-yard line, and the Dolphins went on to reach the end zone to tie the score at 7-7 with 6:30 left in the first quarter.
Waddle is in his third season with Miami after joining the team as the sixth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He set an NFL rookie record with 104 receptions, then led the league with an average of 18.1 yards per catch in 2022.
