Jax State’s J-Rock Swain honored by Conference USA

Jacksonville State defensive lineman Jaylen “J-Rock” Swain was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Swain, a junior from Oxford, had six tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, a quarterback hurry and a fumble recovery in the Gamecocks’ 41-16 win at Florida International last Wednesday. Jax State (7-2, 5-1 CUSA) held the Panthers just 12 first downs and 31 yards rushing in the game.

The 5-foot-10, 255-pound Swain is the third JSU player named Defensive Player of the Week, following safety Jeremiah Harris (for the UTEP game) and defensive lineman Chris Hardie (Middle Tennessee). Jax State travels to South Carolina on Saturday, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. on ESPNU.
