Jax State rebrands football field as AmFirst Stadium

Jacksonville State’s football stadium will now be known as AmFirst Stadium following a naming rights agreement with the Birmingham-based credit union.

The “multi-year” agreement was approved Tuesday by the Jax State Board of Trustees. The naming rights agreement is a first for Jax State’s football facility, known as Burgess-Snow Stadium since 2009.

“Jacksonville State University is thrilled to enter into this transformative partnership with AmFirst,” JSU president Don Killingsworth said. “This collaboration not only signifies a new chapter in the history of our football program but also underscores our commitment to providing exceptional opportunities for our students, athletes, and the entire Jacksonville community. We are excited about the future and the possibilities this partnership will bring to our campus.”

Opened in 1947 as the “College Bowl,” Jax State’s stadium was re-named for longtime Gamecocks supporter Paul Snow in 1961 and added the name of long-time coach Bill Burgess to become Burgess-Snow Stadium in 2009. The 24,000-seat stadium was extensively remodeled during and after the 2023 season to add a new operations building and overhaul the visitor’s side grandstand.

Jax State is 301-108-8 at home since 1961, a .731 winning percentage. The Gamecocks went 9-4 and won the New Orleans Bowl in 2023, their first after moving up to the FBS level as a member of Conference USA.

“As we move into a new and exciting era of Jax State football, AmFirst has stepped up and made a significant commitment to our university and our football program,” JSU athletics director Greg Seitz said. “This partnership will enhance what is already one of the best environments in college football, on display to a national television audience week in and week out, while also benefiting our fans and community.”

Jax State will christen AmFirst Stadium on Aug. 29, with its season-opener at home vs. Coastal Carolina.
