Jax State hires Luke Olson as defensive coordinator
Jacksonville State has hired Luke Olson as its new defensive coordinator, the school announced Friday.
Olson spent the 2023 season as a senior defensive analyst at TCU, following 11 years on staff at Tulsa. He was the Golden Hurricane’s defensive coordinator and safeties coach in 2022, but was not retained when new coach Kevin Wilson was hired to replace the fired Philip Montgomery.
At Jax State, Olson replaces Zac Alley, who was hired earlier this month at Oklahoma. The Gamecocks ranked fourth in the country in 2023 in opponent yards per rush (2.8), eighth in tackles for loss yardage (414), ninth in turnovers gained (25) and 10th in interceptions (16).
Jacksonville State went 9-4 in 2023, its first season on the FBS level. The Gamecocks capped their season with a 34-31 overtime victory over Louisiana in the New Orleans Bowl.
