Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams’ first NFL reception went for a 41-yard touchdown on Dec. 11. On Sunday, the former Alabama standout’s first NFL rushing attempt went nearly as far.

Williams got the football on a reverse on a first-and-10 snap at the Chicago 48-yard line and got tackled 40 yards later at the Bears 8 in the third quarter on Sunday.

The Lions scored two snaps later to take a 31-10 lead over Chicago at Ford Field in Detroit.

Williams was playing in his fifth NFL game after his rookie season got off to a delayed start because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in Alabama’s 33-18 loss to Georgia in the CFP national championship game on Jan. 10.

In his second NFL game, Williams caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff during a 34-23 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. So far, that is Williams’ only reception in 2022.

With his first rushing attempt on Sunday, Williams has averaged gaining 40.5 yards on the first two touches in his NFL career.

The Lions traded the 32nd, 34th and 66th selections in the 2022 NFL Draft to the Vikings so they could use the 12th choice on Williams, even though they didn’t know when he would be able to play.

Williams went on injured reserve on Aug. 23, began practicing with his Detroit teammates on Nov. 21, left injured reserve on Dec. 3 and made his NFL debut with eight snaps in a 40-14 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Dec. 4.
