James Bradberry stays with Eagles for more than money
Making second-team All-Pro marked James Bradberry as one of the four best cornerbacks in the NFL during the 2022 season, so as the former Pleasant Grove High School and Samford star approached unrestricted free agency on Wednesday, he had plenty of suitors.
But Bradberry isn’t going anywhere. Instead, he’ll stay with the Philadelphia Eagles on a contract extension reported as a three-year, $38 million deal that includes $20 in guaranteed money and incentives that could add another $6 million to its value.

“I went back because of familiarity with the coaching staff, because I love the city and playing for the Eagles,” Bradberry said. “They gave me a deal around what I was looking for. Yes, there were other teams that offered me more, but I feel like Philly fit me the best.”
During the 2022 season, Bradberry recorded 44 tackles, three interceptions and 17 passes defended during the regular season, then added another interception in the playoffs as the Eagles won the NFC championship and reached Super Bowl LVII.
Bradberry was playing in his first season with Philadephia after an unscheduled visit to free agency last offseason.
Bradberry became an immediate starter with the Carolina Panthers after they selected him from Samford in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. After four seasons, he left Carolina in free agency for a three-year, $43.5 million contract with the New York Giants.
A Pro Bowl selection in his first season with the Giants, Bradberry never made it to the third season of his contract. Two months after the start of free agency, New York released Bradberry in May to cut $10.1 million off its salary-cap obligations for the 2022 season.
Philadelphia quickly signed Bradberry to a one-year, $7.25 million contract, and he helped the Eagles lead the NFL in passing defense in 2022.
