With each of the top-five players in the 2023 Heisman voting heading to the NFL, a new crop of players are odds leaders to win the coveted award in 2024.

Early Heisman Trophy odds: Jalen Milroe (+750)

Jalen Milroe was a play away from extending the Alabama vs. Michigan College Football Playoff semifinals matchup to a second overtime but came up short against the eventual National Champions. With Alabama expected to make another run at a national title, Milroe is tied with Quinn Ewers and Carson Beck for the top 2024 Heisman odds.

The 21-year-old required some time early in the year to develop as a passer, and by season’s end, he was among the top quarterbacks in the nation. Milroe was an afterthought to win the 2023 Trophy and went on to earn sixth place in Heisman voting.

After last season’s ups and downs, Milroe gained valuable experience that should bolster his numbers in 2024. The former four-star recruit passed for 2,834 yards, ran for 531 yards, had 35 total touchdowns, and eight turnovers.

Jermaine Burton’s departure to the NFL is a critical loss, as the Georgia transfer led the Crimson Tide in receiving yards and touchdown catches. However, Milroe will get some continuity with the return of Isaiah Bond, Kobe Prentice, and Kendrick Law, who combined for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns.

Early Heisman Trophy odds: Carson Beck (+750)

Stetson Bennett entered the 2023 NFL Draft as one of the most decorated players in Georgia history. Not only did Bennett help lead the Bulldogs to consecutive National Championship victories, but he also earned Offensive MVP honors in both title games, was a 2022 Heisman finalist, and earned the 2022 Burlsworth Trophy for the most outstanding former walk-on.

Beck had an incredibly high standard to meet, and his first year as Georgia’s starter was a success. Beck tallied 3,941 yards, 28 total touchdowns, and six interceptions and has one more season to get the Dawgs back to National Championship glory.

However, he must do so without college football’s best tight end, Brock Bowers. Bowers seemed ready to join the NFL Draft following his freshman season, and after catching 56 passes for 714 yards and six touchdowns in only 10 games, he’s finally eligible to go pro.

The Bulldogs also lost Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and Ladd McConkey to the NFL Draft, but Dominic Lovett, Rara Thomas, Dillon Bell, and Arian Smith will be back in 2024. Kirby Smart has been active in the transfer portal and picked up WRs Colbie Young and London Humphreys, who combined for 1,002 yards and nine touchdowns in 2023.

Early Heisman Trophy odds: Nico Iamaleava (+1500)

When Joe Milton announced he’d be inactive for the Citrus Bowl vs. Iowa, Tennessee fans weren’t upset because it meant they’d see true freshman Nico Iamaleava’s first career start. The former five-star prospect didn’t disappoint, throwing for 151 yards, one touchdown, and rushing for 27 yards and three scores.

Iamaleava didn’t have to do much through the air because the Volunteers gashed Iowa for 232 rushing yards and three touchdowns. But seeing the 6-foot-6, 206-pound QB’s electrifying elusiveness is already garnering Heisman buzz.

Josh Heupel has a track record of developing QBs, and Hendon Hooker is a prime example. In two seasons as Virginia Tech’s starter, Hooker threw for 2,894 yards, rushed for 976 yards, and had 36 total touchdowns.

In Hooker’s final two years under Heupel at Tennessee, his numbers jumped drastically to 6,080 passing yards, 1,050 rushing yards, and 68 total touchdowns.
