Jalen Hurts helps introduce U.S. Women’s World Cup team

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts’ active offseason continued on Wednesday when he helped announced the U.S. team for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

In addition to the Eagles’ offseason practices, Hurts also recently made his acting debut. The former Alabama standout was in front of the cameras again as one of the entertainment and sports celebrities who announced the members of the national team.

Joining a lineup that included Taylor Swift, Shaquille O’Neal and Mia Hamm in a video introduced by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, Hurts announced midfielder Ashley Sanchez from a record store.

“I just wanted to congratulate you on making the U.S. World Cup roster,” Hurts said. “I know you worked really hard to get there, so go show out and good luck.”

Women’s National Team coach Vlatko Andonovski selected the 23 players who will represent the United States in the competition in Australia and New Zealand next month.

The United States will play three Group E games in New Zealand to open the tournament. The U.S. team plays Vietnam at 8 p.m. CDT July 21, the Netherlands at 8 p.m. July 26 and Portugal at 2 a.m. Aug. 1.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is the first with 32 teams, an increase from the 24 of the previous two tournaments. They’ll play at five Australian and four New Zealand cities from July 20 through Aug. 20.

The United States has won the past two FIFA Women’s World Cup championships in 2015 and 2019.

Hurts is preparing for his third season as Philadelphia’s starting quarterback.

In his second, Hurts finished second in the voting for The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player Award, made second-team All-Pro, was chosen for the Pro Bowl and became the first NFL quarterback with a passer rating of more than 100 to score at least 10 touchdowns as he helped Philadelphia set a team record for victories and win the NFC championship.

The Eagles fell to the Chiefs 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12, even though Hurts had 304 passing yards, a touchdown pass, 70 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. No other player in NFL history has reached those four stats in the same game.
