Jahmyr Gibbs up for annual NFL rookie honor
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs has been chosen as a finalist for the 2023 Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Year Award.
The first-round draft choice from Alabama ran for 945 yards and 10 touchdowns on 182 carries and caught 52 passes for 316 yards and one touchdown in 15 regular-season games. Gibbs ran 10 yards for a touchdown on his first postseason rushing attempt in the Lions’ 24-23 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in the first round of the NFC playoffs.
The other finalists for the rookie honor are Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane, Lions tight end Sam LaPorta, Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson and Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.
The 22nd annual winner of the award will be decided by fans’ votes. Fans can make their choice online and can vote through Feb. 2.
Gibbs will return to the field for the Divisional Weekend of the NFL playoffs when the Lions take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 2 p.m. CST Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit. NBC will televise the game.
