Ivey tells ‘good friend’ Katie Britt to ‘get the job done’ with State of the Union response
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey delivered a message of support to Sen. Katie Britt on social media ahead of her delivering the Republican to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address tonight
The governor said in a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter: “Senator Britt, it’s your good friend, Gov. Kay Ivey. All of Alabama knows that you will deliver a strong message tonight. One that everyone across the country needs to hear. You will paint a clear picture of the Republican vision: securing the American dream! So go ahead Senator, keep on making Alabama proud, and get the job done!”
The governor previously supported Britt’s upcoming speech in a tweet from February saying, “Sometimes the best man for the job is a woman!”
Britt is currently in the national spotlight and is noted as the first Alabama politician to deliver a response to a State of the Union Address or a presidential address to a joint session of Congress since the tradition started in 1966.
Her speech also comes at a critical time, as Ivey just signed SB159 into law, give legal protection to in vitro fertilization clinics after an Alabama Supreme Court ruling caused some to pause services.
At 42 years old, Britt is the youngest female senator, taking former Sen. Richard Shelby’s seat after 35 years. She’s made strides in her first year as senator, getting invited to join in on weekly leadership meetings from Senator Mitch McConnell.
