‘It’s a great place:’ Vigor sophomore, 5A Lineman of the Year Jabarrius Garror talks about choosing Tide

Vigor star and Alabama commit Jabarrius Garror wasn’t surprised by his stellar sophomore season.

“I knew it was coming because I worked really hard in the offseason,” Garror said at Tuesday’s Alabama Sports Writers Association Player of the Year Banquet. “This was my best season by far. I feel like God made it happen for me, and I’m really thankful for that.”

Garror was named Class 5A Lineman of the Year in Montgomery on Tuesday, edging teammate Kentonio Kelly Jr. and Williamson’s Ellis McGaskin for the honor. The banquet was sponsored by Alfa Insurance and the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.

Garror led the Wolves with 104 tackles and was credited with 56 tackles for a loss, 21.5 sacks and 37 QB hurries.

What and who does he credit for his success?

“Work,” he said. “My trainer, Torren McGaster, gave me the keys and details and my mom and dad were on me about what I needed to do. I made them proud this year, and I’m happy I did.”

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound EDGE committed to Alabama last July. He is the second-ranked sophomore recruit in the state, according to the 247 composite rankings, and the No. 35 recruit nationally.

“It’s a great place. It’s like home. It is home,” Garror said of his decision to commit to Alabama last summer. “When I talk to my recruiting coaches, it’s like family. They are always giving me great advice. I dreamed about playing there since I was 7. It was an automatic.”

Alabama coaches have talked to Garror about playing the Jack position on the Tide’s defense, similar to what Will Anderson and Dallas Turner played.

However, Garror is still receiving plenty of attention from other colleges as well. Georgia offered him Tuesday morning.

“It’s Alabama right now, but I’m still listening,” he said. “My recruitment is open.”

Garror’s other offers include South Carolina, Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State and LSU.

“I’m looking for a place that is like home and I can bond with my teammates and coaches and be built to be the best version of myself,” he said of his hopes for his future college home.”

Garror helped Vigor to a 12-2 record and an appearance in the Class 5A semifinals in 2024.
