It was a good day on Wall Street. How did our local stocks fare?

The value of 13 stocks on our Mobile & Alabama Stock Report on a day that saw the S&P 500 close at its highest level in more than a year.

Community Health Systems, which has six Alabama hospitals including Baldwin Regional Medical Center, saw the sharpest increase of the day, rising 5.7% to close at 3.91 per share.

Automakers Honda and Toyota also saw gains.

Cruise operator Carnival, meanwhile, rode a 12.5% upswell as analysts upgraded its stock on signs demand remains steady for the industry and that pricing is holding up. The company plans a return to Mobile this fall when the Carnival Spirit, the first non-Fantasy class ship to sail out of Mobile in years, is scheduled to launch out of the downtown cruise terminal On Oct. 22.

The U.S. stock market has been cruising on hopes the economy may avoid a recession and the Federal Reserve may soon take it easier on its hikes to interest rates.

Traders are betting the Fed will hold rates steady at its next meeting, which concludes on Wednesday. That would be the first time it hasn’t hiked rates at a meeting in more than a year.
