Isolated severe storms possible in Alabama for the next three days

Part of Alabama face the prospect of seeing severe storms today, Saturday and Sunday.

It will also be very warm statewide, and heat advisories will be in effect for parts of west Alabama today.

As far as storms go, the National Weather Service said the strongest storms could have damaging wind gusts as high as 60 mph and heavy rain. Hail could also be possible in Saturday’s storms.

The weather service said a series of disturbances will bring chances for storms to the state through the weekend.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather for north and part of central Alabama for today (today’s forecast is at the top of this post) as well as Saturday and Sunday.

A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.

On Sunday there will be another Level 1 risk, but it will expand to include most of the state. Below is the outlook for Sunday:

The weather service said Friday’s storms could develop along an outflow boundary and could merge into an organized cluster across northeast Alabama and push southeastward through the evening.

Saturday’s storms could originate in a cluster that could develop far to the west in Kansas and Arkansas. It could make it to Alabama after sunrise on Saturday and push across the state during the day.

On Sunday, forecasters said a final round of storms could arrive in north Alabama in the morning as a cold front drops southward across the state.
