Is Walmart open New Year’s Day? Store hours for Jan. 1, 2023

There are plenty of legends surrounding food and the traditional role it plays for the new year.

Tradition holds you should eat black eyes peas, representing coins, and greens like collards, mustard or turnip greens for paper money in the new year. If you’re looking for even more luck, make sure you eat some cornbread, something said to bring gold in the new year.

There’s no proof that any of the traditions actually bring good luck, but if you forgot to pick up your peas, greens or cornbread, there’s still time.

Walmart is open New Year’s Day. Most locations will open Jan. 1, 2023 at 6 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. Some stores may be operating on a different holiday schedule, so be sure to check ahead.

If you do go shopping at Walmart on New Year’s Day – in addition to black eyed peas, greens and cornbread – you can expect to find plenty of clearance deals on home décor, holiday items and clothing. Walmart is also hosting its “New Year Reset” with discounts on exercise equipment, attire, and supplements.
