Is Saraland 5-star WR Ryan Williams closing in on announcement?

Ryan Williams may not wait until Feb. 9 after all.

The Saraland 5-star wide receiver and top unsigned player in the country dropped an hourglass on his social media page this morning.

That was the entire post on ‘X,’ formally known as Twitter.

On Monday, he told AL.com he was getting weary of the recruiting process and, on Tuesday, canceled this weekend’s scheduled visit to Texas, according to On3.

He also was scheduled to visit Auburn on Feb. 2. No word yet on the status of that visit. After announcing his reclassification into the Class of 2024 in December, Williams said he would announce and sign on Feb. 9, his 17th birthday.

The second signing period for football begins on Feb. 7.

Also today, predictions for Williams have started to flip from heavily Auburn to heavily Alabama where he was originally committed until the Nick Saban retirement news broke on Jan. 10. On the 247 composite page for the Class of 2024, the day started with Auburn predicted 100 percent to land Williams. It is now 67 percent for Alabama.

Williams visited Tuscaloosa last weekend and said he had a “great time” meeting with new coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.

In an interesting twist, Alabama hosts Auburn in basketball tonight at Coleman Coliseum. There is scheduled to be an Iron Bowl trophy presentation at halftime after the Crimson Tide’s win in Jordan-Hare Stadium in November.

Williams is the state’s reigning Mr. Football winner and is again a finalist for the Class 6A Back of the Year.
