Is Donald Trump making a comeback? New poll might be a sign of hope for the president
It’s not exactly good news, but it’s the best news President Donald Trump has gotten in a while on the polling front.
While several polls have been released showing Trump underwater with the American people by double digits, a new poll released Wednesday has his disapproval much lower than other surveys.
Trump has 45% job approval and 45% disapproval; 10% are neutral, according to the Emerson College poll marking the president’s first 100 days of his second term.
Since Emerson polled Trump’s first 50 days, the president’s approval has decreased by two points, while his disapproval has not changed, the survey found.
The Emerson poll contrasts starkly with several other polls released over the last week.
A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos Poll found Trump’s approval underwater by 13 percentage points; 55% of respondents disapproved of how Trump was handling his job as president compared to 42% who approved.
In addition, a CNN poll had Trump at 57% disapproval and a -14 net approval rating and a CBS poll had him at 55% disapproval and a -10 net approval rating.
Those surveys came on the heels of a New York Times/Siena College Poll on Friday that showed Trump with 54% disapproval and a -12 net approval rating.
Last Wednesday, a Fox News Poll showed Trump with 55% disapproval and a -11 net approval rating.
Trump railed against the Fox News Poll and News Corporation’s CEO and chairman in a Thursday morning Truth Social diatribe.
“Rupert Murdoch has told me for years that he is going to get rid of his FoxNews, Trump Hating, Fake Pollster, but he has never done so,” Trump posted Thursday morning to his Truth Social media platform.
“This ‘pollster’ has gotten me, and MAGA, wrong for years,” Trump continued before tearing into one of Murdoch’s other media properties.
“Also, and while he’s at it, he should start making changes at the China Loving Wall Street Journal. It sucks!!!”
Trump’s approval rating was the lowest for any president heading into their first 100 days in 20 years.
Joe Biden was at 54% after his first 100 days, while Barack Obama was at 62% and George W. Bush had a 63% approval rating at the 100-day mark of their presidencies.
The same poll found 62% of respondents want Trump to succeed — the lowest percentage of any president in 20 years.
Before that poll, the lowest mark of any president on that question was George W. Bush.
In early August 2006, 63% of voters said they wanted Bush to succeed in his second term, the poll found.
