Is Alabama’s hands-free law making roads safer?
A law to keep drivers off their phones has helped prevent hundreds of crashes and injuries in Alabama over the last year, according to the findings of one recent study. But experts say there is more to be done in the battle against distracted driving.
“Achieving zero traffic deaths and ensuring everyone arrives at their destination safely is possible,” reads the 2024 report A Roadmap for Safer Roads. “But only if we solve the problem of distracted driving. It starts with each driver making a concerted effort to be 100% focused on the activity of driving. Contrary to what some may believe, driving is a complex task that requires the driver’s full attention.”
